MAUI AND THE SUN

Maui and his brothers couldn’t get many jobs done because the sun was moving too fast. Maui said he was going to catch the sun. He told the villagers to make a net out of flax. They went to the cave that the sun was staying in. They put the net over the cave and hid.

Maui and his brothers pulled on the ropes as the sun came up. Maui beat the sun until he screamed. The sun promised to go slowly if Maui stopped beating him. Maui let the sun go and the children got to run around again.
