SOFTBALL SKILLS

Room 14 had softball skills. We went to the front field with Marty Grant. He plays for the Black Sox softball team. We were learning to throw a ball. We tried to hit Marty with the ball because he was our target. Helen was there too. Marty taught us how to hit the ball with a softball bat. I had fun.

KAHIKATEA SWIMMING CARNIVAL

In Room 14 I went in the swimming carnival. When it was the six and seven year olds turn I was nervous. The water was freezing cold and then the block went. I kicked as hard as I could. After that I did the length and I came second to last. I can’t wait to do it again next year.

Jonny
Room 14 did the swimming carnival. It was cold water but I still had fun. My mummy did not pack enough towels. We were at the school pool. I did the kickboard race and the overarm race too. My parents were cheering. My gran was there too. I am really looking forward to the next time.

Yasmina
A few days ago it was the swimming carnival. I did the overarm length and the kickboard width. I came second. Mum and dad were cheering for me. It was at the school swimming pool and it was freezing cold. It was hard but I had fun.

Toby
In term 1 Kahikatea Syndicate had a swimming carnival. We had lots of events in the carnival. The water was very cold. I was in event 22, it was the relay team. Usha, Cailin, Jonny, Quanah and I were in the relay team. The other event that I was in was the freestyle lengths, the number was 8. There were lots of parents there. I couldn’t stop smiling. It was amazing. I had fun!

Lucy
On Tuesday morning we had a swimming carnival up at the school pool. We had to bring insect repellent and sun screen. When my race started I was nervous because there were lots of family there and the water was freezing cold. I took part in the kickboard width and the over arm width too. Even though it was cold I still can’t wait to do it next year.

Krystal
In the Kahikatea swimming Carnival the number for the overarm length event was seven and I was in it. The carnival was noisy because lots of people were shouting. I was excited and it was cold.
Harry
Room 14 took part in the swimming carnival. The water was so so cold I could hardly bare it. When I did my first race it was so hard to hear because the parents were cheering so loud. I was so happy when I got out, it was fun. The events that I was in were overarm width and another was kickboard width.
The swimming carnival was at the school pool and my dad came to watch. At the end everyone was cold but it was fantastic. I can’t wait to do it next time.

Eva

SUTER ART GALLERY: 'White Gold'

At the Suter Art Gallery my class went to the ‘White Gold’ exhibition about cows. My mum came and we had to draw our own cow. I loved the cows and the cow sounds. One of them had an M for McDonald on it and another had an apple from the Apple computers. I had a great time and I like the Suter a lot.

Mackensey
Room 14 went to the Suter Art Gallery and saw ‘White Gold’. I liked it. We drew some of our own cows. I had fun.

NEW ZEALAND BALLET COMPANY PERFORMS

I went on the bus to the ballet and their real name is the New Zealand Ballet Company. The first thing we did was go up stairs. Then we sat in our chairs. The lights went out and I was scared. Then the dancers came onto the stage. It was so amazing I was nearly crying in the first act. Then the dancers did hip hop. It was fun.

Wills
When half of the class went to the ballet it was at the Trafalgar Centre. It was cool because the men had to lift the women with one hand. The dancing I thought was the best was the break dancing. When we went in the bus I liked the driver’s seat. It was funny how he said we were going to McDonalds.
I loved it and I can’t wait to go there again.

JAPANESE VISITORS COME TO ROOM 14

The Japanese visitor came to see us and she let me have a turn with the dictionary. The next day she came to see us and she gave me some chewing gum. It was orange flavour. She let me have two of her pens and she was nice to me and Skyla. I wished that they would stay.

Usha
The Japanese visitors came to ask questions about New Zealand. They asked us if we had a pet at home. Keely said “No” and Cailin said “Yes” and I said “Yes” too. They took pictures of me and Cailin and Keely. Cailin and Keely and I were happy and having fun.

Quanah
On the 11th of March nine Japanese visitors came to Nelson Central School to meet kids at this school and to ask some good questions. Some questions were hard and some were easy. Cailin’s mum brought them in. They had really cool dictionaries and they made really cool origami. They were very nice and really good at drawing. I had fun.

Oscar
Cailin’s mum brought in some Japanese visitors and I made friends with one of them. They had a little computer to help them spell, I liked it. Their favourite food is sushi, they sleep on mats and they have the same pets as us. It was on the 11th of March and I liked it because I made friends with one or two of them.

Keely
Cailin’s mum brought some Japanese visitors to our school. The Japanese people came to learn some English at school. They let us use their dictionaries. They asked us some questions and we asked them some questions as well. I was happy.

CRINKUM-CRANKUM

WE ARE LEARNING TO RETELL A STORY:

Crinkum-Crankum by Margaret Mahy

Once there was a tree that had a fairy godmother. A witch flew by and said ‘Grow crooked.” The poor tree had to grow crooked. A fairy godmother came along to see how the tree was getting on. The tree said “I have to grow crooked.” “Oh dear!” said the fairy godmother. Then she touched the tree and said “Grow sweet.” The tree put out its first flower.

A year later the witch flew by again. The tree was growing crooked but it was covered in sweet flowers and sweet colour. The witch was angry, really angry. The witch told the poor tree to crooked and lazy-crazy! The fairy godmother came past again to see how the tree was getting on. She touched the tree and said “Grow golden.”

A year later the witch came by and she was angry. The poor tree had to grow crooked and lazy-crazy and crinkum-crankum. The fairy godmother came along and the tree said “I like it here but I have to grow crooked and lazy-crazy and crinkum-crankum.” The fairy godmother touched the tree and said “Grow safe.”

A year later the witch flew by again and lots of children were playing in the tree. The witch was so angry that she burst like a black balloon.

A year later the witch flew by again to see the tree. She was angry and told the tree to grow lazy-crazy and crinkum-crankum. The fairy godmother came back to see the tree. She touched the tree and told it to grow safe.

The witch flew by again and she saw all of the children playing in the tree. The witch was so angry that she burst like a black balloon.
