Munch mild cheese and hiding in its hole

Mask parade

It sounded like people having conversations about how fun it will be, adults chattering about their children, kids whistling low as they walk. I saw colourful masks walking with me, shops with giant labels on top, a giant ferries wheel with screaming children on top, I smelled hot chocolate. With extra marshmallowy smell, impatient to start the mask parade.

EXPRESS YOURSELF:
We are going to express ourselves by informing our community about children in
Kroo Bay and raise money for Save the Children.

Every person has the same rights. People here in New Zealand have a good life but in some other places around the world people don’t have the same things as us. We want to help these people all around the world who are sick.

Kroo Bay is a slum community in Africa. In Kroo Bay people have their homes made out of scrap metal, clay and wire. The stuff they make it from has holes in it.

In Kroo Bay people only have one cupboard of medicine. If they get sick there is not enough medicine for everybody.

We would like to raise some money to help people around the world. I would like us to buy a water well from the Save the Children Wishlist. People need this so they can have clean water forever plus it would provide clean water to drink.

So can you please give some money so we can all help other people’s lives? Please.

Kroo Bay is a slum community in Africa. In Kroo Bay people are dying because they don’t have enough medicine. We want to help people that live in a slum.

In Kroo Bay people basically live in sheds. They don’t have doors or walls and they have to use curtains.

We would like to raise some money to help people around the world. I would like to buy a yak because people will get milk. You can take the yaks horns off and knit warm clothes and blankets.

We want to make human rights a reality so please give us hundreds of dollars so we can help.

In Kroo Bay people don’t have enough medicine. Humans are dying because there isn’t enough medicine for everybody. People can’t afford to buy medicine and doctors don’t have enough to give to everyone that needs it.

In Kroo Bay people live next to the river. Their drinking water is dirty and not healthy. They need to have healthy water or they can drink the water and die.

We would like to raise money to help the poor humans around the world. I would like to buy one year’s teacher training from the Save the Children Wishlist. This is a good idea because then people can get an education.

LUNCH AT THE QUEEN’S GARDENS:

On Friday 21st of August room 14 walked to the Queen’s Gardens because it was Kiri’s last day. Some parents came too but only two. When we got to the Queen’s Gardens we got set up and had lunch. I sat next to Eva and Ana, they’re my two best friends. After lunch we played lots of games like tag, bubbles and climbing trees.

After we had played some games and did all the stuff we needed to do we packed up and walked to the Japanese garden. It was amazing, there were lots of things made of concrete. Then it was time to go so we lined up and walked back to school. We saw shags nests and water wheels. It was so much fun. I can’t wait until next time.

Last week me, my dad and my brother went up the mountain to a ski club. It took seven hours to get there. First we reached the bottom hut and we stayed one night there. The next day we climbed the mountain. When we got to the top hut I had some breakfast. In the afternoon I jumped in the hot tub.

We stayed two more days because I got sick. I got too sick so we had to drive off the mountain. After that we stayed three nights at somewhere else and then we went home. I had great fun!

Suddenly a spaceship came out of nowhere and two freaky aliens came marching towards Jim and Debbie. They said “Hi our names are Thorax and Mokka. Do you want to come to Mokkoucity?” “What’s Mokkoucity?” asked Jim. “We live there, it’s an amazing place. Do you want to come?” asked Thorax. “Yes I do, aye Debbie!” “Sure”, said Debbie. “Come in. We are going to take off soon. Quick!” said Thorax. ZOOM ZOOM. Jim fainted. “What is wrong Jim?” asked Debbie, but he didn’t respond.

“We are at Mokkoucity. Let’s have a party!” said Thorax. “See you two later” said Mokka. WAHOOOO. Then Jim and Debbie were back at their car. “Wow!” they said and they drove home. It was dinner time. “Man, I am so sleepy” said Jim and Debbie.

Jim and Debbie hid behind a bush but it was no good, the aliens saw them. Luckily they were nice aliens. One was called Ding Dong because he slept with an alarm clock on all day. The other alien was called Tavooscy because that’s what everybody called him.

“Do you want to come to Zozspliespok?” the aliens asked. “Yes”, said Debbie. So they all went to Zozspliespok. There were aliens everywhere. There were computers, playstations and DSs. They all had a sleepover and the next morning Tavooscy was standing over Jim and Debbie. “Run away!” they shouted.

Jim and Debbie ran back to the spaceship and they flew back home. They ran into the house. Just then Jim’s mum came in. She asked “Why is there an alien’s spaceship in the backyard?” “Long story, long story mum!”

We are friendly aliens.” “Do you want to come home with us?” asked Jim and Debbie. “Yes!” said Alien 1 so Jim and Debbie took the aliens back to their house. The aliens slept on the floor and ate toilet paper and drank toilet water. They all lived happily ever after.

One evening last summer Jim and Debbie took a drive to the park. It was dark and Jim got petrified and jumped out of the car. Debbie followed. She saw a light coming from a spaceship so she hid in the trees with Jim. Aliens came out of the spaceship and their names were Dede and Swifingling.

Jim and Debbie went home and the aliens went with them. One day Jim bought a big fish, the aliens ate fish and spewed in the room. Debbie was sick in the room too because she smelt the fish. Debbie took the aliens back to the spaceship and Jim went back with the aliens. Debbie wanted to go too but she got frightened and ran away. Debbie never saw Jim again.

The next day Bagoga had an old chair for breakfast instead of cereal. Snozzcumber had a delicate cabinet with autographs in it. Jim said “Not the autographs!” Debbie said “Go easy dad, they’re only aliens.” “Okay,” said Jim.

For lunch Bagoga had fresh boogers and Snozzcumber had a fence. Then they went back to space. Jim and Debbie had fun with the aliens and the aliens had fun too. They will catch up again in the future.

Debbie yelled “Come on, get out of the car!” They ran to hide in the bushes but they were too late. The aliens had already come out of the spaceship. The aliens said “Greetings earthlings. Our names are Happy and Funny.”

Happy asked Jim and Debbie if they wanted to come to Swizbow with them. Jim and Debbie said “No!” but the aliens chucked them into the spaceship and took off. When they landed in Swizbow the aliens walked out of the spaceship. Quickly Jim and Debbie ran into the control room and flew off to their home.

Jim and Debbie ran towards a big fat tree so they could hide but they were too late because the aliens found them. “Whirrrr!” the aliens said. The aliens were friendly and they all flew back to the alien planet. Jim and Debbie wanted to go back to New Zealand so the aliens zapped them back to New Zealand.

The next night Jim and Debbie went back to the spooky forest. The aliens were still there but they were different. They looked different and they spoke differently too. They said “Hi, we are aliens. Our names are Spikey 1 and Pickchi 2. We are mean, but sometimes we are nice like today.” So Jim and Debbie took the aliens home. The next morning they had breakfast and mum said ‘Why is there an alien spaceship in the backyard?” “I don’t know what you are talking about!” Jim and Debbie said. The aliens stayed there for a very long time.

The next month Jim and Debbie took them back to their spaceship. The spaceship was gone to they had to build another one. The aliens finally went home and Jim and Debbie did miss them!

One evening last summer Jim and Debbie took a drive down the road. It turned out to be a long drive and a very dark spooky night. Suddenly Jim and Debbie heard a noise. CRASH, BANG, BANG! It was a flying saucer. “Hide, hide!” said Debbie. “I’m scared!” said Jim. Jim and Debbie ran as fast as they could the bushes. It was a very prickly and bumpy bush. WHIRRRR! “What’s that?” yelled Debbie.

Two froggy looking aliens jumped out of the flying saucer. “Hi. My name is Cumby, his name is Gumby. Do you want to come for a ride?” Cumby pulled Jim and Debbie into the flying saucer. “Do you want me to tell you a bed time story about the place we are taking you?” asked Gumby. “Okay,” said Jim. ‘Well, we are taking you a big humungous palace full of cobwebs and spooky spiders. Also there’s a tiny tiny attic where Cumby and I keep our interesting things that we see floating in space.” “I’m a bit tired,” yawned Jim. “Same,” said Debbie. They both fell asleep.

In the morning when Jim and Debbie woke up Jim realized that Gumby was sleeping on him. Jim kicked Gumby off him. Gumby went flying up to the roof and bumped the tip of his nose and landed SPLAT on his tummy.

Debbie said “What’s for breakfast?” Cumby said “Either bark or sand.” “Yuck!” said Jim
and Debbie, “Do you have anything else?” “Don’t you like bark or sand? Did you know bark and sand are the yummiest breakfast in the world?”

“I want to go home,” whispered Debbie. “Same!” said Jim. “Should we get out of the flying saucer and then jump?” “Okay, but how do you open the door?” asked Debbie. “Try pressing all the buttons,” said Jim. “Okay, but what happens if I press the wrong button?” “I don’t know, don’t ask me!” said Jim. “I’m not sure about this Jim!” said Debbie. “Don’t worry. It’ll be fine, just fine. I’ll do the top row, you do the bottom row,” said Jim. “Okay. Jim, what do you think the green buttons are for?” asked Debbie. “I don’t know, just press it alright! Bamboo sticks and poisonous trees!!!” said Jim.

Jim didn’t know what was happening. He could feel the flying saucer vibrating. “I knew I shouldn’t have pressed the green button!” “What’s wrong with you?” asked Debbie. “Are we flying?”said Jim. “AAAAAAH!” said Jim and Debbie. Crash, bang, splat! The flying saucer crashed through an old cracking window. “OUCH!!!” Jim and Debbie screamed.

“I wonder who lived in here?” whispered Debbie. “Whoever does live in here, I bet him or her will be very cross with us,” said Jim. “Hey, what does that sign say? ‘This is no one’s house.’ Shall we live in here?” asked Debbie. “Yes!” said Jim and they lived happily ever after.

Thursday

Going to the Suter Art Gallery

On Thursday 14th of May our class went to the Suter. We walked down with some parents and sat outside. Esther talked about the rules then she took us in. The exhibition was called ‘Eye Spy’. Esther told us that we had to start at the letter that was the same as the first letter of the parent that was looking after us. Our group went to ‘A’.

We talked about this picture that was based on the horse at Tahunanui. We played a game that included writing some things about the pictures. Esther told a few parents to look at this other exhibition that we went into. It had a polar bear’s skin and freaky stuff. Then the teacher told us that we had to go.

It was so much fun that I can’t wait to go back in a few weeks.

The Suter Trip

On Thursday 14th of May Room 14 went to the Suter Art Gallery. First we came and sat on the mat. Esther was talking about the rules in the exhibition. One is not to touch the paintings.

The name of the exhibition was ‘Eye Spy’ and it had the letters A to Z in it. My favourite letter was ‘R’ because it had a rocking dragon on it. I finished first looking at the paintings with my parent, Chris.

We went to the exhibition of animals. It had a deer. It was quite scary for me. After that we lined up and went back to school. I went back to school with Chris and Helen in groups.

On 14th Room 14 went to the Suter Art Gallery. We walked there. I walked with Chris and Helen. At the Suter we looked at ‘Eye Spy’. We had to find things which other people couldn’t find. Toby got our sheet and he whizzed along on our sheet.

I went from A to Z and Esther said that ‘R’ was the hardest one to find. I thought it was easy to find. Beside the paintings were alliterations. Alliteration means words which start with the same letters, and ‘I’ was my favourite. One of the other best parts was the animals exhibition. My group was Harry, William S and Ethan.

We walked back to school. I can’t wait to go back to the Suter Art Gallery again in a couple of weeks.

We looked at the paintings and we played ‘Eye Spy’. We got a board and pencil and piece of paper. We looked at a lot of the paintings and looked for something. I wrote on the back of the piece of paper.

After that we went into a room with animals in it and there were dead birds and sheep skin. We went out of the room with the different animals. We said goodbye to the teacher and walked back to school.

We went to another room and it had a polar bear’s shiny skin. We looked at a crocodile’s beg. We went outside and lined up and we went back to school and ate our morning tea. I can’t wait until next time at the Suter Art Gallery.

Esther was our teacher.

On the way back Emma got a sore leg and got a piggy back. As well as Emma getting a piggy back she got a foot rub and stopped for a minute or two. When we got back to class we had morning tea. I had great fun.

On Thursday 14th of May Room 14 and the parents walked to the Suter Art Gallery to see the exhibition called ‘Eye Spy’. ‘Eye Spy’ is artwork with letters in the wall and sentences with alliteration to help us spot the objects. In my group Esther told the parents to take us kids around the room to look around at the artwork. We had to make up sentences for the rest of the group. Some of the questions were really hard. One of our questions I picked was about the mast of a boat. It took ages for Ana to spot it. My group did Quanah’s question and Keely’s questions. It was really hard.

Just before we left we went into another room. Lots of dead animals were in there. I was tired walking back to school. I had fun!

The first letter of her name is A so we started at A. At A I saw aeroplanes and at E I saw a girl that moved from England to New Zealand and she is remembering England. Also I looked at R. It was absolutely amazing, kind of like a sculpture. It was of a rocking horse and Tahunanui playground.

At the end of the trip Room 14 quickly went and saw some dead animals. There was a freaky polar bear rug. I was very tired when we walked back to school. I can’t wait to go on another Suter trip!

When we got there Helen knocked on the door so Esther knew that we were there. Esther came out and talked to us. Next we went in with our buddies and we went up the steps. Esther told us to sit down and I sat with Kotone on the mat and looked at the paintings. Then we looked around at the alphabet.

Next we went into another room. Animals were opened up because hunters killed them. Then we walked back down to school.

On Thursday 14th of May Room 14 went to the Suter Art Gallery. We walked with some parents. When we got there we sat down and Esther told us to get up. We looked at the art. The exhibition is called ‘Eye Spy’.

At ‘Eye Spy’ we had to find all of the hidden things. After that we made our own ‘Eye Spy’ questions. Esther copied our sheet then other groups got our sheet. I tried to do Cleo’s sheet, Cleo is our guest. Then we went to this other exhibition with dead animals. I saw a deer and a peacock. I had fun at the Suter Art Gallery.

Suter Trip

On Thursday 14th of May Room 14 and parents went to the Suter Art Gallery. I walked with my mum Arlene and Ellen, my little sister. We were going to see ‘Eye Spy’. Esther told us the letters were A to Z. The artwork all had a different letter. Each artwork had alliteration about them. All the paintings were in alphabetical order. I didn’t touch any of the artwork.

After ‘Eye Spy’ we lined up inside ready to go. We said bye to Esther and walked back to school. I walked back with my mum and little sister. Then we had morning tea. I had a good morning. It was great going to the Suter. I want to go back.

GOING TO KAITERITERI
In the school holidays my family went to Kaiteriteri. Maddie had friend at Kaiteriteri, her name was Rochelle. I got to sit in the front seat. Charlie started to make me giggle by saying “You’re a giggle guts Lulu poopoo!” Mum, Maddie, Charlie, Rochelle and I got McDonalds. When we got to the caravan we unpacked, made the beds, put up the table, cooked the dinner and then dad arrived. After dinner Maddie and Rochelle went to the shop to buy lollies and chewing gum.

The next day I went to the flying fox and lots of people wanted chewing gum. I had to give them lots of chewing gum. Before you could believe it Rochelle had to go home.

When I got to the caravan a girl came, her name was Taylor. I played all day and all of the next day. Before long we were packing to go home.

I had great fun. I can not wait until the next holiday.

In the holidays I went to Crackerjacks and got an adventure tool. It has a light, a compass, a thermometer, a mirror, a whistle and a storage place. I went there with mu mum, Bryn and Pippa. It is a very cool tool.

In the holidays George came for a sleepover. He came for two days and one night. Our favourite game was ‘snuggly bugs’. It was really fun.

On Saturday we went shopping at Farmers so we could get me some birthday presents. I liked looking at Transformers. I had a cool holiday.
