WE ARE LEARNING TO RETELL A STORY:

Crinkum-Crankum by Margaret Mahy

Once there was a tree that grew in Nelson Central School. The tree had to grow crooked because a witch told it to. A fairy godmother touched the tree and told it to grow sweet. Then the tree grew sweet.

A year later the witch flew by. The tree was growing crooked but it was covered in pink flowers. The witch was angry and told the tree to grow lazy-crazy. The fairy godmother came along to see how the tree was getting on. The fairy godmother touched the tree and told it to grow golden.

The witch flew by a year later and she was angry to see the tree with golden leaves. She told the tree to grow crinkum-crankum. When the fairy godmother came to see how the tree was getting on she touched the tree and told it to grow safe.

A year later the witch flew by again. The witch was angry because there were lots of children playing in the tree. She was so, so angry that she burst like a black balloon!
