WE ARE LEARNING TO RETELL A STORY:
MAUI AND THE SUN

Maui and his family were upset because the sun was moving too fast. Maui decided to catch the sun. He told some women to get some flax to weave a rope.

Maui and his brothers set off, they walked for seven weeks until they reached some caves. His brothers were scared but Maui said the plan would work. Then they hid. Suddenly the sun jumped out of the cave. The men pulled on the rope around the sun. Maui beat the sun. The sun thought Maui was going to kill him. “Stop beating me!” said the sun. “Only of you promise to go slower,” said Maui.

Maui made the sun go slower and the villagers had more time to do their chores.
